The Sigma Xi Postdoc Survey provides evidence that institutional policies and practices make a quantifiable difference in the quality and productivity of postdoctoral experiences. Sigma Xi and the National Postdoctoral Association hosted a workshop in January, 2006 at the Sigma Xi Center in Research Triangle Park, NC that focused on measures found in the survey to have the greatest impact.
- The workshop examinee policies and practices with an emphasis on how to get things implemented rather than just what needs to be done.
- The meeting consisted primarily of case studies and small group discussions on special topics. Case study presenters were asked to focus on how they accomplished things rather than on what they accomplished. We also asked people to discuss things that did not work and lessons learned.
- This was a working meeting. Participants were asked to do some advance preparatory work.
- Attendees includeed a mixture of deans, postdoc office administrators, and postdoc leaders.
